Flight of the raven by morgan l busse5/29/2023 I was so intrigued by this setting and loved the world-building. I think I thought there would be more time spent in the actual dreamscapes, but at the same time I don’t really mind because the rest of the book was so cool too! I particularly liked the soul aspect of it. □ The Dreamwalking was a cool aspect to the book. I love anything involving dreams in fiction so I was really excited to try this one. The plot was a slow-burn kind of one, full of mystery and politics but enough spice of danger and adventure to keep you on the edge of your seat-the rest of it did that actually as well! I love a good epic fantasy and this one was awesome! The world was so rich and the characters were fantastic. These opinions are entirely my own.Īaah, that was so cool! Now where’s the next book? I was not required to write a positive review. My thanks to Bethany House for the complimentary copy of MARK OF THE RAVEN. Published Novemby Bethany House Publishers Age: Technically listed under Adult but teens would love it too!.Title: Mark of the Raven (The Ravenwood Saga, #1) Author: Morgan L. Time for a book review, since I haven’t done one in awhile, and I have a fabulous new book to tell you about! Farragan's Retreat by Tom McHale5/29/2023 All of it is assertively alive.(Kirkus Review).See photos for additional content. McHale's novel is full of conviction as well as paradox and protest, and the props throughout are graphic representations of the struggle (the Corrigans are undertakers Principato's father dealt in caskets and tombs) which takes place in South Philadelphia. Will the old man die a recusant or did he really lunge for the Cross at the end? Will Principato escape the dingy, moneyed and marmoreal enclosure of his life with Cynthia who is actually as predatory as a piranha? Mr. A lovable, intractable, perhaps inviolable spirit-namely Principato's father-is dying of throat cancer he is the possessor of the Defiance, has stayed out of the Church for 35 years while telephoning in his sins every Friday night to a priest who says ""uh huh."" Now he has bequeathed that ineffable Defiance to his son Principato, a sallow, trapped ineffectual who has been condemned to the ""safe predictable misery"" of one Cynthia Corrigan, their five children, and her family of prelates. Principato is an inventive, resilient and inordinately sympathetic first novel staked out in the playing fields of the here and the hereafter and engaging in the sempiternal scrimmage between dogma and the spirit. A bit scuffed but all pages intact and legible. (Book, 1971) Advanced Search Find a Library Cite/Export Cite/Export Copy a citation APA (6th ed.) Chicago (Author-Date, 15th ed.) Harvard (18th ed.) Better than the movies by lynn painter5/28/2023 She has recently found it hard to cope with her mother’s death in the face of senior year milestones and the thought of leaving for college when Joss asks Liz to go prom dress shopping, Liz invents an excuse not to go. Liz is determined to make Michael into the rom-com hero of her love life she believes this would make her mother proud. Liz also does not let the rumors about Michael having feelings for apparent mean girl Laney discourage her-Liz has despised Laney ever since grade school for Laney’s cruelty. She makes it her mission to go with him to prom, even though her best friend Jocelyn (Joss) warns about romanticizing him. When Liz’s childhood crush, Michael, returns to town after seven years, Liz is immediately infatuated again. They currently have an ongoing war over the only available parking spot on their street, and he constantly teases her for her fashion sense and optimistic belief in romance. Before she died, Liz’s mother taught her that the charming “bad boy” is not the man to aim for instead, she should seek a nice, dependable man for her “happily ever after.” Liz believes her hero cannot be Wes Bennet, her annoying next-door neighbor who has tormented her since childhood. The protagonist, Liz Buxbaum, explains in the Prologue that romance movie binge-watching is a tradition she and her late mother shared. This guide references the July 2022 paperback edition of the novel. Painter is the author of other bestselling romantic comedies, both for teens and adults, such as The Do-Over and Mr. Warrior of the wild tricia levenseller5/28/2023 Once I made it past this point, however, I was sucked in. I took a little while to get hooked by the book, getting stopped at Rasmira’s coming-of-age trial, which the jacket summary reveals go horribly wrong and which I kind of didn’t want to see–both because I didn’t want to read about bad things happening to Rasmira and because a failed trial seems so cliche YA in some regards. The plot is generally predictable, but engaging characters and a swoon-worthy romance make it a strong YA novel that will give fans of the genre exactly the type of stuff they love. Warrior of the Wild is a Viking-inspired fantasy that takes place in an interestingly compact world, one with seven villages and the surrounding “wild,” which few people brave unless forced to. But when her coming-of-age trial is sabotaged and she fails the test, her father banishes her to the monster-filled wilderness with an impossible quest: to win back her honour, she must kill the oppressive god who claims tribute from the villages each year or die trying. As her father’s chosen heir, eighteen-year-old Rasmira has trained her whole life to become a warrior and lead her village. A Discarded Son by Lorna Peel5/28/2023
Darling by k ancrum5/28/2023 Upholding the spirit of adventure and the value of found family, Ancrum ramps up the tension through the increasingly discomforting night, creating a layered reworking. Wendy Darling isnt thrilled about the move to Chicago, mainly because her parents wont let her meet her best online friend Eleanor in person, despite the fact that they video-chat all the time. Lagoon nightclub, and the relationship between Tink and her girlfriend Ominotago, who is Ojibwe, is well wrought and tender. It transplants the story to 2020 Chicago, and takes away the magic of Neverland. Ancrum injects a healthy dose of intersectionality into the original’s structure: the group attends a drag performance at the Mermaid’s The route to the party is fraught with danger-the group evades police raids led by Detective Hook, and Wendy begins to realize that the night, and Peter, may conceal a dark agenda. When charismatic Peter Pan, who’s white, climbs through her broken window, she accepts his invitation to a party, sneaking out to join Peter and a group of disenfranchised teens, including “very short and very angry looking” Tinkerbelle, who’s bisexual and blonde. Wendy Darling, 17 and Black, chafes against her overprotective parents’ restrictions during her first week in the city where her mother was raised. In this contemporary Peter Pan reimagining, Ancrum ( The Weight of the Stars) reframes the fantasy as an after-hoursĪdventure set in the shadows of Chicago. Once I Was A Soldier by Daniel Kemp5/28/2023 it also keeps a nice flow, you don't find yourself drifting off in thought or the like as the engagement of the book and flow of things will keep you interested and desiring more. The story can get a bit racy at times which I find to add to its mystery and excitement. I find the in-depth use of English words to be engaging and stimulating while the plot unfolding makes it challenging to turn off. And I must say it's a very interesting story unlike any I've heard before. I was recommended to read/listen to this book by a good friend of mine. A very interesting story, and great voice. The importance of being earnest5/28/2023 Oscar Wilde’s hilarious farce, with its sharp wit and eccentric characters, has been delighting audiences for well over a century. Two young gentlemen, good friends Jack and Algernon, have been bending the truth and hoping to put some excitement into their lives – but they get a lot more than they bargained for when friends become rivals.īoth have been using the same pseudonym “ Ernest” on the sly, which would be fine, if they hadn’t both fallen in love with (and proposed to!) women using the same name… A comedy of errors, mistaken identities and attempts to claim the one true Ernest cause pandemonium as deceptions are discovered! The Worcester Repertory Company presents The Importance of Being Earnest Written by Oscar Wilde Directed by Ian Good Run to ground by katie ruggle5/27/2023 There were some weird situations that occurred that weren’t really explained away, not even after the plot was revealed so I have to say, this book is not my favorite of the few I’ve read from KR. Almost, like, there’s no one else around, might as well get with this person. It’s just kind of there and feels almost forced. Jules and Theo have chemistry but it’s nothing to write home about. They fear anyone coming into their little bubble and definitely fear the handsome cop whom has taking a liking to their older sister. Their relationship was strong and supportive and challenging at certain moments. I have to say that I fell in love with the lead female and her siblings from the beginning. Meanwhile, the lead male is dealing with the loss of his K9 partner and is breaking in his former human partner’s (whom has also died) K9 partner and both surviving officers are not in the right frame of mind. So it starts off with a great escape and then there is a constant worry about the consequences of such escape the entire book. |
